Andile and two friends rented a mountain cabin for the weekend. They brought food for two days. On Saturday night, the snow began.

Andile y dos amigos alquilaron una cabaña de montaña para el fin de semana. Llevaron comida para dos días. El sábado por la noche empezó a nevar.

By Sunday morning, the snow was up to the windows. The road was closed. Nobody could leave.

El domingo por la mañana, la nieve llegaba hasta las ventanas. La carretera estaba cerrada. Nadie podía irse.

"We must stay one more day," said one friend. "How much food do we have?"

«Tenemos que quedarnos un día más», dijo un amigo. «¿Cuánta comida tenemos?».

They put everything on the kitchen table. There was half a bag of rice. They had three cans of beans and four eggs. They also had two onions and a few carrots.

Pusieron todo sobre la mesa de la cocina. Había media bolsa de arroz. Tenían tres latas de frijoles y cuatro huevos. También tenían dos cebollas y unas cuantas zanahorias.

"It is not much," Andile said. "But it is enough."

«No es mucho», dijo Andile. «Pero es suficiente».

They played cards all afternoon. The loser had to wash the dishes. Andile lost four times.

Jugaron a las cartas toda la tarde. El perdedor tenía que lavar los platos. Andile perdió cuatro veces.

In the evening, they made soup. Andile cut the onions and the carrots. They added the rice and the beans. The soup was hot and thick. The wood stove kept the room warm. Outside, the wind was loud.

Por la noche, hicieron sopa. Andile cortó las cebollas y las zanahorias. Agregaron el arroz y los frijoles. La sopa estaba caliente y espesa. La estufa de leña mantenía tibia la habitación. Afuera, el viento sonaba fuerte.

They ate two bowls each. It was the best soup of the whole year. Then they went to bed early.

Comieron dos platos cada uno. Fue la mejor sopa de todo el año. Luego se acostaron temprano.

On Monday morning, they heard a big engine. A farmer came down the road on a tractor. It had a wide blade. He pushed the snow to the side. Then he waved at the cabin.

El lunes por la mañana, oyeron un motor grande. Un granjero bajó por la carretera en un tractor. Tenía una pala ancha. Empujó la nieve hacia un lado. Luego saludó con la mano a la cabaña.

Andile ran outside in his socks. He had a cup of hot soup in his hand. The farmer smiled and took it.

Andile salió corriendo en calcetines. Llevaba en la mano una taza de sopa caliente. El granjero sonrió y la tomó.
