Cato wakes up and looks out of the window. Snow is everywhere. The street is white and quiet.
卡托醒来,朝窗外看去。到处都是雪。街道又白又安静。
He puts on his coat, his hat, and big boots. He takes his bag and leaves the house.
他穿上外套,戴上帽子,穿上大靴子。他拿起书包,出了门。
The walk to school is slow. The snow comes up to his knees. He falls once, and he laughs.
去学校的路走得很慢。雪深及膝。他摔了一跤,笑了起来。
There are no cars on the road. There are no children. Cato thinks, "Maybe they are all late."
路上没有车,也没有孩子。卡托想:“也许他们都迟到了。”
At school, the doors are shut. The yard is empty. Cato looks at the windows. They are dark.
到了学校,大门关着。院子里空荡荡的。卡托看了看窗户。里面一片漆黑。
A teacher stands by the front door. She has a big shovel. She moves the snow away from the steps.
一位老师站在前门旁边。她拿着一把大铲子,正把台阶上的雪铲开。
"Cato!" she says. "Why are you here?" "It is Monday," he says. "I have school."
“卡托!”她说,“你怎么来了?”“今天是星期一,”他说,“我要上学。”
She laughs. "The school is closed today. There is too much snow. Did you not read the message?"
她笑了。“今天学校停课。雪太大了。你没看到通知吗?”
Cato takes out his phone. There is one new message from last night. It says, "School closed." His face turns red.
卡托拿出手机。昨晚有一条新消息,写着:“学校停课。”他的脸红了。
The teacher points to a second shovel by the wall. Cato takes it. He starts to push the snow.
老师指了指墙边的另一把铲子。卡托拿了起来,开始铲雪。
