Arin skates twice a week. Today she takes her little cousin to the ice rink. It is his first time. He is seven years old and very small.
阿琳每周滑两次冰。今天她带着年幼的表弟去溜冰场。这是他第一次来。他七岁，个子很小。
At the edge, he holds the wall with both hands. He does not move.
在场边，他双手紧紧扶着围墙，一动也不动。
"The ice is too slippery," he says. "I am going to fall."
“冰太滑了，”他说，“我要摔倒了。”
"Everyone falls," Arin says. "I fall too, and it does not hurt much."
“谁都会摔倒，”阿琳说，“我也会摔，而且不怎么疼。”
She gets a small plastic chair from the side of the rink. "Hold this," she says. "Push it in front of you. Take small steps."
她从场边拿来一把小塑料椅子。“扶着这个，”她说，“推着它走在前面，一小步一小步地走。”
He pushes the chair and moves one step. Then another. His knees shake, but he does not stop.
他推着椅子，往前挪了一步，又挪了一步。他的膝盖在发抖，但他没有停下来。
After ten minutes, Arin shows him a new trick. "Now try the penguin walk. Put your feet apart. Turn your toes out. Hold your arms out like wings."
十分钟后，阿琳教了他一个新招数。“现在试试企鹅步。两只脚分开，脚尖向外，像翅膀一样把手臂张开。”
He tries it and starts to laugh. Penguins are his favorite animal. He walks across the ice with his arms out. Arin laughs too.
他试了试，笑了起来。企鹅是他最喜欢的动物。他张开手臂，在冰上走了过去。阿琳也笑了。
He falls once and sits on the ice. "That did not hurt," he says in surprise. Arin pulls him up.
他摔了一次，坐在冰面上。“一点也不疼！”他惊讶地说。阿琳把他拉了起来。
Then he lets go of the chair. He takes ten penguin steps all by himself. At the end, he slides a little. Arin stands back and puts her hands in her pockets.
然后他松开了椅子，自己一个人走了十个企鹅步。走到最后，他还滑出去了一小段。阿琳退到一旁，把手插进口袋里。
"Look at me!" he shouts. "I can skate!"
“看我！”他大喊，“我会滑冰了！”
