Derek wakes up early and gets ready for work. He grabs his coffee and walks out to his car. He turns the key, but nothing happens.
德里克早早醒来，准备去上班。他拿起咖啡，走到车边。他转动钥匙，可是毫无反应。
He tries again. The engine makes a strange clicking sound, but it does not start. Derek looks at his watch. He has thirty minutes before his meeting.
他又试了一次。发动机发出奇怪的咔嗒声，但就是打不着。德里克看了看手表。离开会只剩三十分钟了。
"Not today," he says to himself. He gets out of the car and closes the door.
“偏偏今天，”他对自己说。他下了车，关上了车门。
Derek checks the bus schedule on his phone. A bus stops near his house every fifteen minutes. He grabs his bag and walks quickly to the bus stop.
德里克在手机上查了公交时刻表。他家附近每隔十五分钟有一班公交车。他抓起包，快步走向公交站。
At the stop, a few other people wait too. A woman with a big umbrella smiles at him. "Car trouble?" she asks.
站台上还有几个人在等。一位撑着大伞的女士朝他笑了笑。“车坏了？”她问。
"Yes," Derek says. "It just will not start."
“是的，”德里克说，“就是发动不起来。”
"That happened to me last winter," she says. "It's always at the worst time."
“去年冬天我也碰到过，”她说，“总是在最糟糕的时候。”
The bus arrives, and Derek gets on. He finds a seat by the window. He watches the city go by. He checks the time again. He still has twenty minutes.
公交车来了，德里克上了车。他在靠窗的位置坐下。他看着城市从窗外掠过。他又看了看时间。他还有二十分钟。
The bus stops two blocks from his office. Derek steps off and walks fast down the street. He reaches the building five minutes early.
公交车在离他公司两个街区的地方停下。德里克下了车，沿着街道快步走。他提前五分钟到了大楼。
His coworker looks up. "You're here early today," she says.
他的同事抬起头。“你今天来得好早，”她说。
"Not exactly," Derek says with a small smile. "My car did not want to start today."
“也不完全是，”德里克微微一笑，说，“我的车今天不想发动。”
He sits down at his desk and turns on his computer. The meeting is about to begin. He arrived right on time.
他在办公桌前坐下，打开电脑。会议马上就要开始了。他到得正好准时。
