Rain During the Game

Callum has soccer practice every Tuesday after school. He always arrives early to warm up. Today, the sky looks clear and bright. His teammates slowly arrive at the field.

Callum berlatih sepak bola setiap Selasa sepulang sekolah. Ia selalu datang lebih awal untuk pemanasan. Hari ini langit tampak cerah dan terang. Teman-teman satu timnya tiba satu per satu di lapangan.

The coach blows his whistle to start practice. Players run laps around the field first. Then they practice passing the ball in pairs. Callum passes with his friend Fiona.

Pelatih meniup peluitnya untuk memulai latihan. Para pemain berlari mengelilingi lapangan lebih dulu. Lalu mereka berlatih mengoper bola secara berpasangan. Callum mengoper bersama temannya, Fiona.

"Nice pass," Fiona says, kicking the ball back. "You get faster every week."

"Operan bagus," kata Fiona sambil menendang bola kembali. "Kamu makin cepat setiap minggu."

"Thanks. I practice at home too," Callum says, smiling.

"Terima kasih. Aku juga berlatih di rumah," kata Callum sambil tersenyum.

Halfway through practice, the sky slowly turns gray. Nobody notices the clouds at first. The players keep running and passing the ball. The coach checks his watch and frowns.

Di tengah latihan, langit perlahan berubah kelabu. Pada mulanya tak ada yang memperhatikan awan itu. Para pemain terus berlari dan mengoper bola. Pelatih melirik jam tangannya dan mengerutkan dahi.

Suddenly, thunder crashes loudly above the field. Everyone stops and looks up at once. Thick, dark clouds now cover the sky. Rain starts falling hard and fast.

Tiba-tiba, guntur menggelegar keras di atas lapangan. Semua orang berhenti dan menengadah sekaligus. Awan hitam yang tebal kini menutupi langit. Hujan mulai turun deras dan cepat.

"Everyone, grab your bags!" the coach shouts. "Run to the gym, now!"

"Semuanya, ambil tas kalian!" seru pelatih. "Lari ke gedung olahraga, sekarang!"

Players scatter and run toward the school building. Callum grabs his bag and water bottle. Fiona slips a little on the wet grass.

Para pemain berhamburan dan berlari menuju gedung sekolah. Callum menyambar tas dan botol minumnya. Fiona sedikit tergelincir di rumput yang basah.

"Are you okay?" Callum asks, helping her stand.

"Kamu tidak apa-apa?" tanya Callum sambil membantunya berdiri.

"I'm fine, just wet," Fiona says, laughing.

"Aku baik-baik saja, hanya basah," kata Fiona sambil tertawa.

They run together through the heavy rain. They reach the gym at last. Both are completely wet.

Mereka berlari bersama menembus hujan lebat. Akhirnya mereka sampai di gedung olahraga. Keduanya basah kuyup.

Inside, the team gathers near the doors. Water drips from their hair and jackets. The coach counts the players quickly.

Di dalam, tim berkumpul di dekat pintu. Air menetes dari rambut dan jaket mereka. Pelatih cepat-cepat menghitung para pemain.

"Everyone is here," he says, relieved. "Great job today, everyone."

"Semua sudah di sini," katanya lega. "Kerja bagus hari ini, semuanya."

Fiona squeezes water from her wet hair and grins. "That was such a fast run!"

Fiona memeras air dari rambutnya yang basah dan nyengir. "Tadi itu lari yang cepat sekali!"

Callum laughs and pulls off his soaked jacket. "Same time next week?" he asks.

Callum tertawa dan melepas jaketnya yang basah kuyup. "Minggu depan di waktu yang sama?" tanyanya.

"Same time next week," Fiona agrees, still smiling.

"Minggu depan di waktu yang sama," Fiona setuju, masih tersenyum.
