The Wrong Train Ticket

Peter wants to visit his sister in Riverton. He walks to the train station early in the morning.

Peter quiere visitar a su hermana en Riverton. Camina hasta la estación de tren temprano por la mañana.

He goes to the ticket counter and waits in line. "One ticket to Riverton, please," he says.

Va a la ventanilla de boletos y espera en la fila. «Un boleto a Riverton, por favor», dice.

The clerk types on her computer. She prints a ticket and hands it to him.

La empleada escribe en su computadora. Imprime un boleto y se lo entrega.

Peter pays for the ticket. He thanks the clerk and walks toward the platform.

Peter paga el boleto. Le da las gracias a la empleada y camina hacia el andén.

He waits for his train. He looks down at the ticket in his hand.

Espera su tren. Mira el boleto que tiene en la mano.

Peter stops. The ticket says "Lakeside," not "Riverton." He reads it again, but it still says Lakeside.

Peter se detiene. El boleto dice «Lakeside», no «Riverton». Lo lee otra vez, pero sigue diciendo Lakeside.

He walks back to the ticket counter. "Excuse me," he says. "This ticket is wrong."

Regresa a la ventanilla de boletos. «Disculpe», dice. «Este boleto está equivocado».

"I asked for a ticket to Riverton," Peter explains. The clerk looks at the ticket.

«Pedí un boleto a Riverton», explica Peter. La empleada mira el boleto.

"I'm sorry," she says. "I typed the wrong city. Let me print a new one."

«Lo siento», dice ella. «Escribí la ciudad equivocada. Déjeme imprimir uno nuevo».

She types again and checks the screen twice. Then she prints a new ticket.

Escribe de nuevo y revisa la pantalla dos veces. Luego imprime un boleto nuevo.

"Here is your ticket to Riverton," she says. Peter checks it carefully.

«Aquí tiene su boleto a Riverton», dice. Peter lo revisa con cuidado.

The new ticket says "Riverton" now. Peter smiles and thanks the clerk.

Ahora el nuevo boleto dice «Riverton». Peter sonríe y le da las gracias a la empleada.

He walks back to the platform. The train to Riverton waits by the platform.

Regresa al andén. El tren a Riverton espera junto al andén.

Peter finds a seat by the window and sits down. He puts the old ticket in the trash can.

Peter encuentra un asiento junto a la ventana y se sienta. Pone el boleto viejo en el bote de basura.

Then he puts the new ticket safely in his bag. The train doors close, and the train starts to move.
