Portada de The Violin Left on the Bus

Ayla took the morning bus to work, as she did every day. The bus was almost empty. At the back, she saw a black case on a seat.

She opened it a little. Inside was a violin. Nobody sat near it. A small label on the case said "Hill Street Music School."

Lo abrió un poco. Dentro había un violín. Nadie estaba sentado cerca.

"Did anyone ask about a violin?" she asked the driver.

«¿Alguien preguntó por un violín?», le preguntó al conductor.

He shook his head. "Not today," he said.

Él negó con la cabeza. «Hoy no», dijo.

Ayla looked at her watch. She had thirty minutes before work. The school was only two stops away. "I will take it there," she said.

Ayla miró su reloj. Tenía treinta minutos antes del trabajo. La escuela estaba a solo dos paradas. «Lo llevaré allá», dijo.

She got off at the next stop and walked fast. The case was heavy, and her arm was tired. After ten minutes, she found a tall grey building.

At the front door, a young man ran out. His face was white. "Excuse me," he said. "Do you know where…" Then he saw the case, and he stopped.

«Disculpe», dijo. «¿Sabe dónde…?». Entonces vio el estuche y se detuvo.

"My violin!" he said. "I left it on the bus. My name is Nasser. I have an exam in one hour. I did not know what to do."

«¡Mi violín!», dijo. «Lo dejé en el autobús. Me llamo Nasser. Tengo un examen en una hora. No sabía qué hacer».

"Then you must hurry," Ayla said. She gave him the case.

«Entonces tienes que apurarte», dijo Ayla. Le dio el estuche.

Nasser opened it and looked at the violin. His hands shook a little. "Thank you," he said. "Thank you so much. Please, tell me your name."

Nasser lo abrió y miró el violín. Le temblaban un poco las manos. «Gracias», dijo. «Muchísimas gracias. Por favor, dígame su nombre».

"It's Ayla. Good luck, Nasser. Play well."

«Es Ayla. Buena suerte, Nasser. Toca bien».

He ran back into the school. Ayla looked at her watch again. Now she was late for work, but she did not care. She turned around and ran for the next bus.
