The Plant Someone Waters

Isla planned a two-week work trip. She loved her plant on the porch. It needed water every two days. She forgot to ask for help.

Isla planeó un viaje de trabajo de dos semanas. Le encantaba su planta en el porche. Necesitaba agua cada dos días. Se olvidó de pedir ayuda.

She left early on a Monday morning. She thought about her plant the whole time. The plant needed water, and she was away.

Se fue temprano un lunes por la mañana. Pensó en su planta todo el tiempo. La planta necesitaba agua, y ella estaba de viaje.

Two weeks later, Isla came home. She walked straight to the porch. The plant looked green and healthy. Isla stared at it in surprise.

Dos semanas después, Isla llegó a casa. Caminó directo al porche. La planta se veía verde y sana. Isla la miró con sorpresa.

"How is this plant still alive?" she said.

«¿Cómo es que esta planta sigue viva?», dijo ella.

She looked around the porch for clues. A small watering can sat by the door. It was not her watering can.

Miró alrededor del porche buscando pistas. Había una pequeña regadera junto a la puerta. No era su regadera.

Isla knocked on her neighbor's door. A young girl named Junie opened it.

Isla tocó la puerta de su vecina. Una niña llamada Junie abrió la puerta.

"Did you water my plant?" Isla asked.

«¿Regaste mi planta?», preguntó Isla.

Junie nodded and smiled a big smile. "I saw it from my window," she said. "The soil looked dry every single day. I used my own watering can."

Junie asintió con una gran sonrisa. «La vi desde mi ventana», dijo. «La tierra se veía seca todos los días. Usé mi propia regadera».

"That was very kind of you," Isla said. "I did not even ask for help."

«Eso fue muy amable de tu parte», dijo Isla. «Ni siquiera pedí ayuda».

"I like plants," Junie said simply. "I water my own plants too."

«Me gustan las plantas», dijo Junie con sencillez. «Yo también riego mis propias plantas».

Isla thanked Junie again and again. She gave Junie a small potted flower. "For your good work," Isla said.

Isla le dio las gracias a Junie una y otra vez. Le regaló una pequeña flor en una maceta. «Por tu buen trabajo», dijo Isla.

Junie held the flower with both hands. She promised to water that one too.

Junie sostuvo la flor con ambas manos. Prometió regar esa también.

Now, Isla waters her own plant. But she waves at Junie's window first.

Ahora, Isla riega su propia planta. Pero antes le saluda con la mano a la ventana de Junie.
