On Thursday evening, Sol went to a cooking class. She did not know anyone. The teacher gave her a partner.
星期四晚上，索尔去上烹饪课。她一个人也不认识。老师给她安排了一个搭档。
The partner was a tall man named Ivo. "Hello," he said. "Let's make soup."
搭档是一位名叫伊沃的高个子男人。“你好，”他说，“我们来做汤吧。”
Sol cut the onions and the carrots. Ivo put water in the pot. They worked well together.
索尔切了洋葱和胡萝卜。伊沃往锅里倒了水。他们配合得很好。
The teacher said, "Now add one spoon of salt." Sol took a white jar from the table. She put in one spoon. She did not look at the jar.
老师说：“现在加一勺盐。”索尔从桌上拿起一个白色的罐子。她放了一勺进去。她没有看罐子上的字。
Ivo tasted the soup. His face changed. "Is it good?" Sol asked. "Taste it," he said.
伊沃尝了尝汤。他的脸色变了。“好喝吗？”索尔问。“你自己尝尝。”他说。
Sol tasted it. The soup was sweet! It tasted like a cake with carrots.
索尔尝了一口。汤是甜的！味道像放了胡萝卜的蛋糕。
She looked at the jar. The word on it was sugar. "Oh no!" she said. Ivo laughed, and Sol laughed too.
她看了看那个罐子。上面写着“糖”。“糟了！”她说。伊沃笑了，索尔也笑了。
Other people looked at them. The teacher smiled. "Start again," she said.
别的人都看了过来。老师笑了笑。“重新开始吧。”她说。
This time, Sol read every jar. Ivo cut new onions. The new soup was very good.
这一次，索尔把每个罐子都看了一遍。伊沃切了新的洋葱。新做的汤非常好喝。
After class, Ivo held his empty bowl. "Do you want to get coffee next week?" he asked.
下课后，伊沃端着他的空碗。“下周你想一起去喝咖啡吗？”他问。
"Yes," Sol said. "But you make the coffee."
“好啊，”索尔说，“不过咖啡得你来做。”
