The Voice in the Cave

Jude and his friend Koa walk on a hill path. The sun is hot. They want some shade.

Jude dan temannya, Koa, berjalan di jalan setapak di bukit. Matahari terik. Mereka ingin berteduh.

Koa sees a small cave by the path. "Look!" she says. "Let's go in."

Koa melihat sebuah gua kecil di dekat jalan setapak. "Lihat!" katanya. "Ayo kita masuk."

The cave is cool and dry. It is not deep. Light comes in from the door.

Gua itu sejuk dan kering. Gua itu tidak dalam. Cahaya masuk dari pintunya.

Jude walks to the back wall. Koa stays near the door. The air smells of wet stone.

Jude berjalan ke dinding belakang. Koa tetap di dekat pintu. Udaranya berbau batu basah.

Jude says, "Hello?" A voice says, "Hello?" Jude stops.

Jude berkata, "Halo?" Sebuah suara berkata, "Halo?" Jude berhenti.

"Who is there?" he asks. "Who is there?" says the voice. Koa does not move.

"Siapa di sana?" tanyanya. "Siapa di sana?" kata suara itu. Koa tidak bergerak.

"Jude, I want to go out," she says. Her face is white. "Go out," says the voice.

"Jude, aku mau keluar," katanya. Wajahnya pucat. "Keluar," kata suara itu.

Jude looks at the walls. Then he smiles. "Koa, it is only an echo," he says. "It says our words again."

Jude memandangi dinding gua. Lalu ia tersenyum. "Koa, itu hanya gema," katanya. "Gema itu mengulang kata-kata kita."

Koa looks at him. "Really?" she asks. "Really," says the voice.

Koa menatapnya. "Benarkah?" tanyanya. "Benarkah," kata suara itu.

They both laugh. The voice laughs too. Koa shouts, "I am Koa!" and the cave shouts it back.

Mereka berdua tertawa. Suara itu ikut tertawa. Koa berteriak, "Aku Koa!" dan gua itu meneriakkannya kembali.

Jude shouts, "Hello, hill!" The cave says it back. Koa laughs so hard that she sits down.

Jude berteriak, "Halo, bukit!" Gua itu mengulangnya. Koa tertawa begitu keras sampai ia duduk.

They stay for ten minutes and shout silly words. Then they sit in the shade. They eat their lunch.

Mereka tinggal sepuluh menit dan meneriakkan kata-kata konyol. Lalu mereka duduk di tempat teduh. Mereka makan siang.
