The Late Start Up the Hill

Cyrus and Bea started their hike too late. It was already three in the afternoon.

Cyrus dan Bea memulai pendakian mereka terlalu siang. Saat itu sudah pukul tiga sore.

They wanted to reach the top of Pine Hill before sunset. The trail map said it usually took three hours.

Mereka ingin mencapai puncak Pine Hill sebelum matahari terbenam. Peta jalur menyebutkan biasanya perlu waktu tiga jam.

"We only have three hours of daylight," Cyrus said. "We need to move fast."

"Kita cuma punya tiga jam cahaya matahari," kata Cyrus. "Kita harus cepat."

They walked quickly up the first part of the trail. The path was steep and rocky.

Mereka berjalan cepat di bagian pertama jalur. Jalannya curam dan berbatu.

After an hour, they stopped to check the map. They were only halfway to the top.

Setelah satu jam, mereka berhenti untuk memeriksa peta. Mereka baru setengah jalan menuju puncak.

"We are late," Bea said. "Let's skip the long break and eat while we walk."

"Kita terlambat," kata Bea. "Kita lewati istirahat panjang dan makan sambil berjalan saja."

They ate their sandwiches while they climbed. This saved them almost twenty minutes.

Mereka makan sandwich sambil mendaki. Cara ini menghemat hampir dua puluh menit.

Near the top, the trail split into two paths. One was long but smooth. The other was a steep shortcut.

Dekat puncak, jalur bercabang menjadi dua. Yang satu panjang tetapi mulus. Yang lain jalan pintas yang curam.

"Let's take the shortcut," Cyrus said. "We don't have much time left."

"Kita ambil jalan pintas," kata Cyrus. "Waktu kita tinggal sedikit."

They climbed the steep path carefully. They used their hands on the rocks. Bea's legs burned, but she kept going.

Mereka mendaki jalur curam itu dengan hati-hati. Mereka berpegangan pada batu dengan tangan. Kaki Bea terasa panas terbakar, tetapi ia terus melangkah.

They reached the top when the sun touched the horizon. The whole sky turned orange and pink.

Mereka tiba di puncak tepat saat matahari menyentuh cakrawala. Seluruh langit berubah menjadi jingga dan merah muda.

Cyrus took out his phone and took a photo of the view. "We are at the top," he said. "Right on time."

Cyrus mengeluarkan ponselnya dan memotret pemandangan itu. "Kita sudah sampai di puncak," katanya. "Pas waktunya."
