The Tortoise and the Hare

A boastful hare challenges a slow tortoise to a race — and learns a lesson about patience.
A Hare was making fun of a Tortoise one day for being so slow.
एक दिन एक खरगोश एक कछुए का मज़ाक उड़ा रहा था कि वह इतना धीमा क्यों है।
"Do you ever get anywhere?" he asked with a mocking laugh.
"क्या तुम कभी कहीं पहुँच भी पाते हो?" उसने ठिठोली भरी हँसी के साथ पूछा।
"Yes," replied the Tortoise, "and I get there sooner than you think. I will run you a race and prove it."
"हाँ," कछुए ने जवाब दिया, "और मैं वहाँ तुम्हारी सोच से भी जल्दी पहुँचता हूँ। मैं तुम्हारे साथ दौड़ लगाकर यह साबित कर दूँगा।"
The Hare was much amused at the idea of running a race with the Tortoise, but for the fun of the thing he agreed. So the Fox, who had been asked to be the judge, marked the distance and started the runners off.
खरगोश को कछुए के साथ दौड़ लगाने का विचार बहुत मज़ेदार लगा, पर मस्ती के लिए वह राज़ी हो गया। इसलिए लोमड़ी, जिसे न्यायाधीश बनने के लिए कहा गया था, ने दूरी तय की और दोनों धावकों को दौड़ शुरू करवाई।
The Hare was soon far out of sight, and to make the Tortoise feel very deeply how ridiculous it was for him to try a race with a Hare, he lay down beside the course to take a nap until the Tortoise should catch up.
खरगोश जल्द ही नज़रों से ओझल हो गया, और कछुए को यह गहराई से महसूस कराने के लिए कि खरगोश के साथ दौड़ लगाने की कोशिश करना कितना हास्यास्पद था, वह रास्ते के किनारे लेटकर झपकी लेने लगा, जब तक कछुआ उसके पास न आ जाए।
The Tortoise meanwhile kept going slowly but steadily, and, after a time, passed the place where the Hare was sleeping. But the Hare slept on very peacefully; and when at last he did wake up, the Tortoise was near the goal.
इस बीच कछुआ धीरे-धीरे पर लगातार चलता रहा, और कुछ समय बाद उस जगह से गुज़र गया जहाँ खरगोश सो रहा था। पर खरगोश बड़े चैन से सोता रहा; और जब आखिरकार वह जागा, तब तक कछुआ लक्ष्य के पास पहुँच चुका था।
The Hare now ran his swiftest, but he could not overtake the Tortoise in time.
अब खरगोश अपनी पूरी रफ़्तार से दौड़ा, पर वह समय रहते कछुए को पछाड़ न सका।
Slow and steady wins the race.
