A girl in a red cloak meets a cunning wolf on the way to her grandmother's.
Once upon a time there was a little girl who lived near a great forest. Her grandmother had made her a red hooded cloak, and she wore it so often that everyone called her Little Red Riding Hood.
Dahulu kala hiduplah seorang gadis kecil di dekat hutan yang lebat. Neneknya telah membuatkan untuknya jubah merah bertudung, dan ia sering memakainya sehingga semua orang memanggilnya Si Tudung Merah.
One morning her mother said, "Take this basket of bread and butter to your grandmother, for she is not well. Walk straight there, and do not wander from the path."
Suatu pagi ibunya berkata, "Bawakan keranjang roti dan mentega ini untuk nenekmu, sebab ia sedang sakit. Berjalanlah lurus ke sana, dan jangan menyimpang dari jalan."
On the way, Little Red Riding Hood met a Wolf. The Wolf asked where she was going, and, not knowing what a wicked creature he was, she told him about her sick grandmother.
Di tengah jalan, Si Tudung Merah bertemu seekor Serigala. Serigala itu bertanya ke mana ia hendak pergi, dan, karena tidak tahu betapa jahatnya makhluk itu, ia pun menceritakan tentang neneknya yang sedang sakit.
The Wolf ran ahead by a shorter road. He reached the cottage first, slipped inside, and waited in the old woman's bed.
Serigala berlari mendahului lewat jalan yang lebih pendek. Ia tiba lebih dulu di pondok itu, menyelinap masuk, dan menunggu di ranjang wanita tua itu.
When Little Red Riding Hood arrived, she thought her grandmother looked very strange. "What big eyes you have!" she said. "All the better to see you with," said the Wolf. "What big teeth you have!" "All the better to eat you with!"
Ketika Si Tudung Merah tiba, ia merasa neneknya terlihat sangat aneh. "Mata Nenek besar sekali!" katanya. "Supaya lebih jelas melihatmu," kata Serigala. "Gigi Nenek besar sekali!" "Supaya lebih mudah memakanmu!"
But her cry was heard by a woodcutter passing nearby. He rushed in with his axe and drove the Wolf away, and grandmother and child were safe.
Namun teriakannya terdengar oleh seorang penebang kayu yang lewat di dekat situ. Ia bergegas masuk dengan kapaknya dan mengusir Serigala itu pergi, dan nenek serta cucunya pun selamat.
Always keep to the path, and never talk to strangers.
