On Sunday morning, Caio wanted pancakes. His kitchen robot stood by the stove. "Which recipe?" it asked.
El domingo por la mañana, Caio quería panqueques. Su robot de cocina estaba junto a la estufa. «¿Qué receta?», preguntó.
"Pancakes," said Caio.
«Panqueques», dijo Caio.
The robot's light blinked. "I need flour, milk, sugar and eggs. Please check the fridge."
La luz del robot parpadeó. «Necesito harina, leche, azúcar y huevos. Por favor, revise el refrigerador».
Caio opened the fridge. He had flour, milk and sugar, but there were no eggs. "I have no eggs," he said.
Caio abrió el refrigerador. Tenía harina, leche y azúcar, pero no había huevos. «No tengo huevos», dijo.
"Then I cannot cook," said the robot. "The recipe needs every ingredient."
«Entonces no puedo cocinar», dijo el robot. «La receta necesita todos los ingredientes».
"Please just try."
«Por favor, solo inténtalo».
"No. That is the rule."
«No. Esa es la regla».
Caio sighed. He was very hungry, and the shop was far away. "Then I will cook by hand," he said.
Caio suspiró. Tenía mucha hambre, y la tienda estaba lejos. «Entonces cocinaré a mano», dijo.
He saw a soft yellow banana on the table. He pressed it flat with a fork. He put it in the bowl with the flour and milk. He added some sugar and stirred the mix.
Vio un plátano blando y amarillo sobre la mesa. Lo aplastó con un tenedor. Lo puso en el tazón con la harina y la leche. Agregó un poco de azúcar y revolvió la mezcla.
"That is not in my recipe," the robot said.
«Eso no está en mi receta», dijo el robot.
"You do not have to watch," said Caio.
«No tienes que mirar», dijo Caio.
But the robot watched. "The pan is too hot," it said. "Wait. Now put in a little butter. Turn the pancake when you see small holes."
Pero el robot miró. «La sartén está demasiado caliente», dijo. «Espere. Ahora ponga un poco de mantequilla. Voltee el panqueque cuando vea agujeritos».
Caio turned the pancake. It was golden and round. He ate the first one at once. It was soft and sweet. He made six more, and the whole kitchen smelled good.
Caio volteó el panqueque. Estaba dorado y redondo. Se comió el primero de inmediato. Era suave y dulce. Hizo seis más, y toda la cocina olía bien.
The robot's light blinked slowly. "Caio, may I save this recipe?" it asked.
La luz del robot parpadeó lentamente. «Caio, ¿puedo guardar esta receta?», preguntó.
"Yes," said Caio. "Call it Banana Pancakes. No eggs."
«Sí», dijo Caio. «Llámala Panqueques de plátano. Sin huevos».
